Cynthia Morris

Chapter Be_Cynthia Morris

Cynthia Morris is an author, illustrator, speaker and coach who I had the pleasure of hearing speak in Denver at Creative Mornings a few months ago. Her talk really resonated with me, and I loved that she created a business, Original Impulse, around the notion of helping people connect to their creative core. She guides people who are emerging and established authors or who are trying to make their creative projects come to life. … CONTINUE READING

Leslie Clay Nowlin

Chapter Be_Leslie Clay_fab'rik_1

Leslie Clay Nowlin knew from a young age that she wanted to be her own boss and have her own business. She entered into the hospitality industry thinking that she would eventually open her own restaurant, but being in that field for just over seven years gave her experiences that helped her realize that was not her dream.

She transitioned to sales and worked for Meltwater, a company that helps businesses drive growth and … CONTINUE READING

Brad Allen

Chapter Be_Brad Allen

I had the opportunity to meet Brad and learn about his story when I started volunteering at Urban Peak – a non-profit in Denver, CO that provides a full convergence of services for youth ages 15 – 24 who are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Brad is the Lead Education Specialist there and works with students who are working toward their GED or looking to enroll in higher education classes. After … CONTINUE READING

Have a Face-to-Face Conversation

Chapter Be_Terminal Bar_Denver

Today I met up with my friend, Brian, to talk about some work stuff – which we did – but a lot of the conversation was also about the struggles and difficulties of creating your own path. We met at Denver’s Union Station and the beautiful surroundings were a backdrop to our honest conversation about following your creative ideas, building a community around you and working to cultivate long-lasting and meaningful relationships.

Mid-January is always … CONTINUE READING

Angela Craven Art – 365 Day Project

angelacravenart_in the studio

One of the things that I want to “be” in 2015 is creating, and as I expressed in an earlier post, There is More to Be Discovered, that involves letting go of my fear that my creations won’t be perfect. I have to be okay with the fact that as I start creating things they will be imperfect and, to be honest, most likely kind of ugly. That is a part of the … CONTINUE READING

Give the Gift of Creativity

the sketchbook project

I recently saw Rick Griffith speak at Denver’s last Creative Mornings event, and one of the things that he talked about was that he has instructed his family and friends that he no longer wants material items as gifts. Instead he said that if people really want to get him something, then they can gift him an hour of someone’s time in order to learn something new. His point being that we need to start CONTINUE READING

Kristin Marin

Chapter Be_Kristin Marin_Suga Me Sweet

Kristin Marin worked as a paralegal for twelve years until she decided this past summer to turn her side cookie business into a full-time affair. She learned to bake the specialized sugar cookies in 2011 and in 2013 she started to turn her hobby into a side-business. She would work her 9 to 5 desk job all day and then would come home and start baking to fulfill the various cookie requests she had waiting … CONTINUE READING

Becky Hensley

Chapter Be_Becky Hensley_Share Denver

Becky Hensley owns and operates the creative space, Share Denver, which opened as a brick-and-mortar in the summer of 2013. She celebrated her year anniversary this past summer with a party, complete with a make-your-own birthday hat station and one for designing your own tote bag. Becky’s creativity streams out of her, but the best part is her desire to share this with others. Share Denver is intended to be a space that not only … CONTINUE READING

Thursday Inspiration: Public Art

denver mural_platte river_chapter be

Today I passed by this new mural that was funded by Denver’s Urban Art Fund and sits along my morning walk route. I love the juxtaposition of the color to the black and white, as well as the geometric patterns, and appreciate that I now get to pass by it each morning. What’s even better is that it supports creative experiences for youth and encourages the use of public space for art.  It’s a great … CONTINUE READING

Mile High Lovin’

Last week I was lucky enough to be able to participate in a bit of Denver Startup Week and the Create Denver Expo that were taking place in Denver, CO. I wasn’t able to be experience the full week of events, panels and speakers, but it was nice to spice things up by getting a new and different perspective from another city’s community of innovators and creatives.

It was very impressive the way in which … CONTINUE READING
