9/100: Be Carefree

9/100 || This pinwheel was given to me by my friend, Brian, and it sits on my desk in a cup full of pens and markers. I keep it because – well, pinwheels are fun – but also because it reminds me of him and his loving spirit. But today I was looking at it and thought – pinwheels are not built to sit in a cup…they are made to be in wind – wild and free! So this grown-ass woman decided to take it along with me on my evening walk with Harriet Ethel!

While walking I realized what I love about pinwheels the most – they exist purely to be fun and give you joy. You cannot help by smile watching one and they transfer their carefree spirit onto you. I found myself getting lost in it’s spin and mesmerized by its monotonous motion – really bringing me into the present moment. Out of curiosity I looked a bit into the history of pinwheels and learned that the symbolic meaning of a pinwheel is to “turn one’s luck around.” Chinese culture believe that a pinwheel is an instrument to turn obstacles into opportunities. Now it will hold a whole new meaning to me as I look at it everyday on my desk.
