69/100: Be Untethered

69/100 || I adopted #HarrietEthel when we lived in Brooklyn, so pretty much for her entire life, she has been an apartment dog. Meaning – she has never had her very own yard where she could just roam free. We technically had one in Brooklyn but it was so small and filled with branches and who knows what else – that it was not somewhere that she really could just run and play. So, she’s gotten quite used to being walked as her way of getting exercise (and our co-dependent relationship probably doesn’t help much either) but long story short – she doesn’t quite know what to do when she is given the freedom – leash free! So, last night I found myself running around my sister’s new backyard with her and my nephew-dog, because otherwise she would have just sat there and barked/stared at me!

Running around with the dogs was not only fun and a great playful moment, but it also reminded me so much of being younger when you got bored with the adult conversation and could not wait to get the chance to leave the dinner table in order to just play! And while I am now one of those adults who very much enjoys sitting around and talking to other adults (especially ones who I love!), it made me wonder what would happen – if like Harriet – we were no longer tethered? But our tether is the expectations that we place on ourselves. What happens when we take off those invisible leashes that we have placed around our own necks as a way of being comfortable or creating a false safety for our lives? Like Harriet – we might be a little uncomfortable and scared at first, but with the help of someone else we might just see how amazing our freedom can be! What are the leashes that are holding you back from both play and freedom? Can you remove them?
