51/100: Be a Warrior

51/100 || “Shooting at the walls of heartache, bang, bang, I am the warrior…” That song has been in my head since stopping by to watch a small moment of the taping of Ninja Warrior in Denver last night. In NYC you got used to TV shows and movies taping on the regular, but in Denver – not so much. As I was driving home I passed it and then decided to do a loopty-loo, park, and stand outside to watch it for a bit. It was both a playful thing to do on my way home, instead of just following my regular route, and it was an experience to watch someone from afar as they did something so playful – and out of the ordinary! ⠀

It’s not everyday that a warrior obstacle course is set-up in a downtown area that you usually pass through and don’t think much about. Seeing everything set-up with all the lights and fanfare made me observe the city just a little bit differently. It also gave me flashbacks to middle school when we would have obstacle course day in gym class. Depending on what period you had gym, you would start hearing rumors that the obstacle course was set-up (which was maybe once or twice a year) and depending on how you felt about it – you then either couldn’t wait for gym or you dreaded the very idea of stepping into that space. I LOVED it. I can’t remember how good I was at it, but it was always one of my favorite days of the year! ⠀

I got to watch as a woman competed and it was just so impressive. I have only watched clips of the show – specifically when Jessie Graff dominated it. I love watching strong women defy what others think they cannot do. She is kickass! And while I know these competitors work hard at what they do, I imagine a lot of it started from just pure interest, curiosity, and playfulness. Reminding us that sometimes our play gives us internal strength to warrior through other life obstacles. Playfulness is one way to approach what might come up in our lives – allow us to warrior on! 💪🏼💪🏼
