34/100: Be Like Annie

34/100 || I hate household chores. Like a lot. I tend to just do surface level cleaning till it gets so bad that I have to spend a whole day committed to making things a tad more presentable. When you can say to yourself – I would be embarrassed if someone just showed up right now – it is probably time to get the task done. Dusting and mopping are at a close tie for the task that I despise the most – so I deiced to take a page from Mrs. Doubtfire’s book and turn mopping into a dance party.

If you catch this post by Monday afternoon – you can check out my dancing in action on Instagram Stories. And, I have to say – it actually made mopping something enjoyable! I put on some fierce ladies (aka Beyoncé & Shakira) and had myself a little dance party for one. Turns out – a mop is just a great dancing prop! The shit got done – and there is something so lovely about going into the week with a clean home!

While mop dancing, it made me think about when I was little and my sister, Stephanie, and I would ask our mom for cleaning supplies so that we could reenact the “It’s a Hard Knock Life” scene from Annie. I was only about 4 or 5 years old, but I was OBSESSED with that movie – and in particular that scene. At that age, I saw the potential in cleaning being FUN, but as an adult, it became a big ol’ chore. Today was such a lovely reminder that if you can change your mindset around something, you can have a completely different experience. The time passed by quickly – I found myself smiling and really present in the moment. So – add a little Beyoncé, Shakira and Annie to the mix and the shit.gets.done.
