17/100: Be Inventive

17/100 || After my injury-inducing somersault, I decided to do something today that was a little less…physical. So before making my dinner, I thought I’d play with my food a bit. Cause when is the last time you were able to do that? I would never call myself a good cook – I usually just throw something together since a girl has to eat. But, taking the time to really examine my food as I constructed it into flowers on my plate, allowed me to observe its innate and natural beauty. It slowed down the process of cooking/making something for dinner and made me see a whole new range of possibilities in the everyday.

The act of just interrupting my everyday routines in order to interject some play has been very powerful. It has made me stop and see where I just get into auto mode and am taking the moment for granted. I make this basil, tomato and burrata dish a lot, but taking the time to feel the texture of the food, observe it’s color, see how the colors compliment each other, smell the aroma of the fragrant basil – it all made the food taste just a little more delicious. When you take the time to be inventive with the materials and time in front of you – a little big of magic can happen out of the most ordinary moments.
