16/100: Be Out of Your Element

16/100 || Um…so…when did somersaults get so hard?! Seriously? I thought it would be a brilliant idea to do somersaults to my bedroom instead of walking and, well, it was *a* somersault that resulted in my legs hitting the wall – going the completely wrong direction from the direction I wanted to go. My cartwheels look like Simone Biles next to my somersaults (side note: I really wanted to write Mary Lou Retton, as she was my childhood idol, but thought I’d make it more relevant…)

Thank goodness there is no video proof, but what my sad little somersault did do was a) make me laugh really hard and b) realize that there is something to making yourself do an act that you don’t normally do or are pretty lousy at doing! Again – in my head I thought it would be an easy playful activity that I could casually do on my way to bed, but there ain’t nothing casual about what my body did (or didn’t do)! I tried it two more times after that to see if I could do a proper one – and I got increasingly nervous and more aware that there was potential to hurt myself. I survived, but it really made me think about how infrequently I do something that is so out of my element. It was embarrassing, but necessary and relevant. And…the mental image will keep me laughing for quite awhile.
