15/100: Today’s play = going to a BBQ at my friend Lacey’s place … first BBQ of the season and on a school-night to boot! It was completely spontaneous and not something that had been planned for weeks. We were supposed to get a drink and instead she brought a group of random friends together for delicious food, good conversation and newness! She was so supportive of trying to incorporate something playful into the evening, too, but then we realized – just all being together was the playful moment.
The more I share this project, the more I get out of it. I love how people want to participate or how encouraging they are in my quest to do it. I’ve also come to realize that adding other people to my playful moments adds a whole other dimension and that so much of being playful involves sharing the experience with others. This is not to say that you cannot find play in your moments of solitude, but that sharing your playfulness is something that is quite often welcomed and then reciprocated. Adults are craving play! If we give each other the opportunity and permission to do so, others will gladly join in! So, seek out partners-in-crime or spontaneous friends or even strangers and have some playful moments – cause there energy is going to bring a whole new level to the moment and experience!
