Street Inspiration

When I was walking around L.A. during my visit in April, I began to notice these spray-painted typewriters with witty, inspirational and wise quotes jutting out of them in several places around town. I am a sucker for street art, and I captured the one above as it spoke to me. I also loved that the artist posted this particular one in Runyon Canyon where many people go to workout (and/or, I’ve since been told, shoot a reality show scene or talk on their phone with their manager). The play on words based on the location, made me appreciate it even more.

When I returned home, I wanted to learn more about the artist so did a little research. I wasn’t able to find much about the person, since s/he is a street artist, but I located WRDSMTH’s social media sites. On the WRDSMTH Tumblr I read the following:

tumblr_WRDSMTH_MessageI loved the mission of the work as much as the messages that the writer/artist was spreading throughout the city. L.A. is full of artists, writers, actors and creatives who move to the city to fulfill their creative dreams. In a cut-throat city, that is largely based around “the industry,” I can only imagine that there are days where you feel entirely alone and rather defeated. You round a corner to find a WRDSMTH message waiting for you, and it might just give you that boost of energy to write one more lyric, or go on one more audition or make a call to book a showing of your work. Whether you are an entrepreneur, an actor or a screenwriter there are always moments of doubt and uncertainty. WRDSMTH helps us realize that we are not alone in these feelings and that our efforts are indeed worth it.

In the need to be able to see WRDSMTH’s work on a daily basis, I started following him/her on Instagram. I have to say that when I check it in the morning the WRDSMTH pictures are the ones that make me smile the most and give me a little extra peep-in-my-step that day. I always look forward to a new one as well as the creativity that the artist brings to the platform. Because I enjoy it so much – I thought it was worth sharing. Take some time to check it out, because there are so many more then what I could share here…
