Many, if not most, of the people I interview for Chapter Be talk about the fact that they either started out having to work side jobs while they got their project going or still are in the process of finding the balance between the jobs that pay them and the project that they have a passion for doing. It has been helpful for me to hear this, so that I know it is part of the process and a means to the end. Ideally, though, I would love to find contract jobs that intersect with Chapter Be and don’t necessarily feel so separate from what I am doing on/with Chapter Be.
One interviewee pointed out, though, that she likes to diversify her interests and having jobs in other fields allow her to tap into that. So much of it all is how you choose to see it and approach the situation. If you dread it, then it will feel dreadful. If you see it as a job to be grateful for, then you will be grateful. The biggest struggle I have, though, is not feeling like I am being pulled in two separate directions – both demanding of my time and energy. For those of you balancing paying jobs with passion projects or starter businesses – how do you find the balance and time for both?
