What Do You Desire?

Alan Watts: What do you desire? from Omer K. F. on Vimeo.

“What would you like to do if money were no object? How would you really enjoy spending your life?…Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing, then a long life spent in a miserable way.”

I recently met Saya Hillman of Mac & Cheese Productions, who does speaking engagements on how to live a “Life of Yes.” She shares the ways that she worked to create her own “Life of Yes,” and how, when she got fired from her 9-5 job, she created a variety of lists – one being “Things I Wish I Could Get Paid to Do.” Many times when I talk to people who are not happy in their current jobs they say, “But I have no idea what else I would do.” In other words, they don’t know what they desire. A good place to start is by listing the things that you wish you could get paid to do. If someone told you that they would pay you to do X – however absurd or unbelievable it might sound – then what would that be? Inevitably, these are the things that make you innately happy, so this is a good place to at least start your brainstorming. Like Alan Watts says in the above video, “You do that and forget the money. Because if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time.”

I started to create my own list, and since Saya encourages putting anything and everything on the list – I did. What would be on your list?
