Timelines 1

I’m impatient when it comes to myself and the movement that I want to make in life. I get frustrated when things don’t move as quickly as I think they should and can be hard on myself when something hasn’t happened in the somewhat arbitrary timeline I have constructed for myself. It seems like I should be doing more or moving faster or be farther along in my process then I am – which then just puts more pressure on the experience instead of opening space for things to happen organically and allow room for “happy accidents.” I recently came across a BRILLIANT post on the site Wait but Why, “Putting Time in Perspective,” and it really did just that for me – it put things in perspective.

The author explains, “To try to grasp some perspective, I mapped out the history of time as a series of growing timelines—each timeline contains all the previous timelines (colors will help you see which timelines are which).  All timeline widths are exactly accurate to the amount of time they’re expressing.”

I’m a visual learner so the timelines had a powerful impact on helping me realize that, well – I need to calm down. I have some time to make my thoughts and goals a reality. Take it slowly and enjoy the process instead of trying to speed it all up. Check it out – hopefully it is as helpful (and interesting) to you as it was for me!

Thanks, Steph! Isn’t it so interesting? I think the author did such a wonderful job of displaying time in a way that you can’t help but slow down and think about it a little differently! Each timeline evokes a little different feeling, too.
